What is the Code of Conduct for the protection of children online?

As technologies develop the range of services related to the use of mobile devices also becomes more extensive, and users, including children, can receive various online and premium-rate services. Thus, it is possible to access unlawful information, as well information that is harmful to children. As a result, children should be protected to the extent possible. In cooperation with other Latvian operators and considering the most topical European trends and ideas, a Code of Conduct for the protection of children in the communications sector has been drafted (lv). It contains a list of unlawful and potentially harmful information for children, as well as a list of possible measures to protect children from this information.

How to protect children from unwanted content online?
To protect your children from unwanted information online (cruel behaviour, violence, erotica, pornography and  contents affecting child's mental health), we recommend to set up one of free online content filters or choose LMT service Internet Guard enabling to limit the time your child spend in social networks and various sites, as well as to protect the child from unwanted content.

There is an option to protect your laptop and smartphone otherwise.
  • Activate “Safe search” on Google search in the settings.
  • Activate YouTube “Restricted mode” on devices used by children.
  • Use parental software offered by Google Play and Apple helping to filtrate the internet content to make it suitable for a child, e.g., Family Link and Family Sharing, Kaspersky Safe Kids, Norton Family etc.
  • Deactivate notifications on your child's smartphone to stop constant offering to view content on social networks.
Bear in mind! Nothing can replace conversation! Talk to your child about safe and responsible use of the internet!

What should I do to ensure that children do not have access to premium-rate services?

If you would like to deny access to premium-rate calls and text messages from the device that your child uses (phone, tablet, computer), the individual in whose name the phone is registered should lodge a written request with any LMT Customer Service Center.

Please note that these restrictions apply only to premium-rate services, and that you will still be able to continue using the services that are not subject to premium rates.

* Text a command, if you want to subscribe to the service for a specified fee already now. Information about the right of wirhdrawal (lv). In case of one-time purchase, the service is provided at once, without applying the right of withdrawal.
